ABOUT KIVVO

About Kivvo

Kivvo is a goal-based savings app built for New Zealanders. We help people set savings goals and contribute toward them on a schedule that fits their life.

The short version

  • Kivvo is a savings app. It helps you set goals and contribute toward them on a schedule.
  • We're a very small New Zealand company — currently two people.
  • We're early-stage. Kivvo is under active development, and some features are still in beta.
  • Kivvo is not a bank, not a financial adviser, and not a financial product provider. See our Financial Services Disclosures for detail.
  • We build for New Zealanders first, and we're honest about our stage and our size.

Why we built Kivvo

Most savings advice boils down to: "spend less, save more." It's not wrong — it's just not useful. Real life doesn't work that way. You know you should save. You want to save. But the friction, the busyness, and the way traditional banking is designed all work against you.

Kivvo is our attempt to fix that. Not with another budgeting spreadsheet, and not with more guilt about what you should be doing. Instead, with a simple system that helps you set a goal, contribute on a schedule that fits your life, and see your progress build up over time.

We want to make savings feel concrete, not abstract. And we want to make it work for real people — not just for the kind of person who already finds saving easy.

What Kivvo does

Kivvo is a savings app. You can:

  • Set a savings goal — a trip, a laptop, a car, a deposit, or just a buffer.
  • Choose a target amount and a target date — so you know what you're working toward.
  • Set up scheduled contributions — weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly — so you don't have to remember to save.
  • Make one-off contributions whenever you want to add extra.
  • Track your progress — see how close you are, and how fast you're getting there.
  • Access Kivvo Payouts (cashback) — where eligible, as a reward for consistent saving.
  • Upgrade to Kivvo+ — for additional features, including cashback eligibility.

What Kivvo isn't

To be clear about what we're not:

  • We're not a bank. We don't take deposits, don't lend money, and don't pay interest. See our Financial Services Disclosures.
  • We're not a financial adviser. We don't give personalised financial advice, and nothing on Kivvo is advice.
  • We're not an investment platform. We don't offer investments, KiwiSaver schemes, or any financial product.
  • We're not trying to be everything to everyone. Kivvo is a savings app. That's it. We'd rather do one thing well than many things poorly.

Our principles

These are the principles we try to work by.

1. Honesty over hype

We're a small, early-stage company. We're not going to pretend to be bigger or further along than we are. Where our product is imperfect, we'll say so. Where we're working on something, we'll say so. Where we're not sure, we'll say so.

2. Simplicity over features

We'd rather have a small number of things that work well than a large number of things that are half-finished. We add features carefully, and we resist the temptation to add more.

3. Your money is your money

Kivvo doesn't take custody of your funds. We don't hold your money, invest it, or use it for anything else. Your money is yours — the app helps you move it toward your goals.

4. Privacy matters

We collect as little as we can, use what we collect only for running Kivvo, and don't sell your data. Ever.

5. New Zealand first

Kivvo is built for New Zealanders. That means NZD, NZ payment rails, NZ regulation, and NZ users in mind. We may expand internationally in time, but we're building for New Zealand first.

6. Small is a feature, not a bug

Being a two-person company means we can move fast, talk directly to our users, and make decisions without layers of management. It also means we can't do everything. We embrace both.

How Kivvo is structured

Kivvo is a software service. We build and operate the app that helps you save.

The movement of your money is handled by licensed third-party providers. Specifically:

  • Stripe processes payments and handles card and bank authorisations.
  • Supabase stores account data and handles authentication.
  • Vercel hosts the web application.
  • Render hosts our backend services.

Kivvo does not take custody of your funds at any point. This is an important part of our structure and is described in more detail in our Terms of Service and Financial Services Disclosures.

Where Kivvo is today

Kivvo is in active development. That means:

  • The core product works. You can create goals, set up contributions, and track your progress.
  • Some features are in beta. For example, Kivvo Payouts (cashback) is currently limited to Kivvo+ members who meet additional eligibility criteria. See our Payouts Policy.
  • More features are coming. We're exploring price watching for the items you want, better analytics, and other tools to help you save.
  • Some things might break. We're a small team, and we're building quickly. When things go wrong, we fix them as fast as we can.

You can check our Status page for current service availability.

Our plans for the future

We're not going to promise a roadmap we can't deliver. But here's what we're working toward:

  • A reliable, useful savings app that New Zealanders actually want to use.
  • Kivvo Payouts, properly launched — currently in a limited rollout.
  • Price watching, so you know when the thing you want drops in price.
  • Continued compliance and transparency as our regulatory obligations evolve.
  • Growth in New Zealand before any expansion into other markets.

We'll update this page as our plans evolve.
